Lost power in thunderstorms last night? Here’s when Macon residents can expect repairs

Strong storms Monday night left nearly 2,000 residents across Middle Georgia without power Tuesday morning, according to Georgia Power.

The company’s outage map reported 69 total outages affecting 1,862 customers in Bibb County after sheets of rain, high winds and lightning hit the greater Macon area for much of Monday night and early Tuesday morning.

Rosa Taylor Elementary School lost power after the thunderstorms and did not open for school Tuesday, according to a release from the Bibb County School District. The school restored power at about 12:15 p.m., the county said.

Other outages include much of Corbin Avenue between Vineville Avenue and Riverside Drive, where 400 residents were without power, and an area on Beaver Ridge Circle near Lake Tobesofkee with 66 residents without power.

Georgia Power estimates that most residents in the Bibb County area will get power back at around 6 p.m., the outage map shows.

As for road blocks and damage, Bibb County spokesperson Chris Floore said there were no major roads closed but that there were around a dozen reports of trees down.

Crews were working on clearing trees Tuesday morning, including one at Northminster Presbyterian Church near Wimbush Road and Old Lundy Road.

Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency encouraged residents to call the non-emergency number at 478-751-7500 to report any road blocks or trees down.
