There’s been a lot of speculation about how Jacky Oh died in Miami. Now, an update
It’s been roughly four months since Jacky Oh’s shocking, sudden death at age 33 in Miami, and now, there are answers.
The “Wild ‘N Out” star, whose real name is Jacklyn Smith, died May 31 due to complications of cosmetic surgery, according to a report from the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office. Her death was ruled “accidental” and her plastic surgeon, Dr. Zachary Okhah, will not be investigated nor will criminal charges be pursued.
As per the coroner’s report, the former MTV star underwent a “gluteal augmentation” also known as buttocks enhancement surgery, on May 30.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, the operation, which transfers fat from one area to the backside, “may add volume, smooth wrinkled skin and lift excess sagging,” but carries some risks, and “recovery can take up to a few months.”
The mother of three, whose partner was former “WNO” costar DC Young Fly, was prescribed ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic; oxycodone for pain; and ondansetron, an antiemetic, to manage nausea.
The night after the surgery, while recovering in her room at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Brickell, Smith developed a headache and was advised by a nurse to take ibuprofen and discontinue the ondansetron, the report said.
But her health continued to spiral. Smith’s aunt, who was caring for her in the room, called 911 after Jacky complained that her head felt like it was “burning,” and she was having trouble speaking. By the time emergency crews arrived just before 10 p.m., the Atlanta resident was “unresponsive.” Jacky was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Coconut Grove shortly before midnight, “despite resuscitative efforts,” said the report.
The autopsy revealed she had swelling in her brain as well as bleeding in the torso area.
Family members told local medical investigators that Jacky did not have medical, surgical or psychiatric history, was not taking any other medications nor did she use tobacco, alcohol or drugs.
Two weeks after her passing, Dr. Okhah sent out an Instagram message assuring potential visitors of his PH-1 clinic, without mentioning the TV personality by name.
“I am relentlessly committed to advancing techniques in the realm of plastic surgery,” said the post. “Most importantly, my staff and I ensure that each patient is vetted, prepped, and treated according to their individual patient history prior to any surgery.”
