Lots of good stuff coming up for Girl Scouts in early June

A big weekend is coming up for Girl Scouts from our area.

On June 3, Girl Scouts from all over the state who have earned the Gold Award (Girl Scouts’ highest rank) will be honored at the state capitol in Austin. Several Scouts who have received scholarships will also be recognized.

A ceremony at 10:30 will be followed by a private reception for Scouts and their families at 11:30.Scouts who have earned the Gold Award have demonstrated their abilities to take on a major challenge, secure resources and see the job through to completion. Any adult who has taken on such a task knows there are always unanticipated issues; the Gold Award Scout faced and overcame them.

Congratulations to these “all right” kids and the families who have supported them.

Perhaps some of the same Scout families will head north up Interstate 35 to the Metroplex to attend the Texas Rangers baseball game against the Seattle Mariners on June 4. This event is open to all Girl Scouts throughout both the Texas Oklahoma Plains and Central Texas councils, as well as Scouts from the Metroplex area and beyond.

Scouts in uniform will be honored by parading around the field prior to first pitch. They can then enjoy the game and still be back to the Big Country at a reasonable hour. No school Monday, but parents still work. (Remember, they don’t get two- or three-month vacations every summer!)

Scouts put in a lot of work, no matter what their age level. Hope they enjoy these two ceremonies over the weekend and know that they and their leaders are appreciated.
