Windham Public Schools recently announced that their Compañeros Program and the C. H. Barrows STEM Academy lotteries are accepting applications until February 26.
Compañeros is Windham’s unique pre-Kindergarten to Grade 8 two-way dual language program. It is an alternative program dedicated to building language proficiency in Spanish and English, cultural exchange, and academic excellence, regardless of a student’s home language.
In Compañeros, parents, children, teachers, and the community work together to prepare the citizens of tomorrow. The goals of Compañeros are bilingualism and biliteracy, high academic achievement in both languages, and socio-cultural competence. The program is only available to Windham/Willimantic residents, and offers more than 390 students in the Windham Early Childhood Center, North Windham School, and Windham Middle School social, academic, and cognitive benefits due to its curriculum of 50% of core academic instruction in Spanish and 50% in English.
Parents/guardians must apply online, as well as attend a virtual information session, or have attended one in the last two years. Once their application is validated, parents will receive an email with their student’s Lottery ID as indication that they have been entered into the lottery. The Compañeros Program lottery is currently accepting applications through 4 p.m. on Friday, February 26. Families can learn more about the program, as well as apply and attend an information session today at windhamps.org/apps/pages/Companeros.
Families are encouraged to call 860-465-2515 or email email@example.com with any questions. Compañeros Program staff are also hosting virtual question-and-answer sessions Fridays in February from 12-1 p.m., and Thursday, February 4 from 6-7 p.m.
