Lottery winner has simple plans after NC jackpot — lounging in a new La-Z-Boy chair

A North Carolina lottery player hit the jackpot — and now she can’t wait to lounge in a new chair.

“I want to get one of those La-Z-Boy chairs,” Lorette Holliday told the N.C. Education Lottery. “That’s the main thing I want.”

Holliday, who recently had foot surgery, “would love a new chair to prop her feet up,” lottery officials wrote in an Aug. 26 news release.

Though Holliday can’t stop thinking about the chair after her big win, her lucky lottery ticket left her skeptical at first.

“I looked at it about four or five times to make sure it was real and not a dream,” Holliday said. “I couldn’t believe it.”

The win was the real deal, scoring Holliday a $200,000 prize in the Lincoln game. She spent $5 on her ticket at Sam’s Superette in Wilmington.

Holliday, who is from Wilmington, kept $142,501 after taxes, officials said.

It’s not the first time someone planned to enjoy the simpler things in life after getting richer in the North Carolina lottery. In July, officials said one winner reported he “will still go to the same hamburger place.”
