LOUDONVILLE − Mohican Community Theatre has announced auditions for their summer musical, Disney’s "Beauty and the Beast."

“We are very excited to be doing such a classic and recognizable show,” said Director Marissa Burd in a news release. “We have been fortunate to have amazing local talent, but over the last couple of years, we’ve been looking to expand our search to get new cast and crew to join our small community theater.”

With their most recent productions of "Shrek" and "Little Shop of Horrors," Mohican Community Theatre has tackled loftier shows with larger casts and more impressive sets, the release states. In the last seven years they’ve been able to modernize their systems with the new purchase of two projectors, sound system, microphone system, and lighting system.

"Even though we are small, we’ve been able to put on extraordinary productions thanks to the talent of our casts and crews" said Burd. "... We are trying to reach out to students at surrounding colleges and adults, especially men, in the bigger cities that are 20-30 minutes away and invite them to get involved! To continue, we need to grow our membership.”

Auditions for "Beauty and the Beast" will be open for adult performers and young performers in grades six through 12.

All diversities are encouraged to audition as Mohican Community Theatre maintains a policy of equal opportunity casting.

Auditions will be held in person at 6:30 p.m. on both March 27-28. Only one night is necessary to attend, and callbacks will be held Wednesday, March 29 if needed.

An audition packet with complete information can be found online at theohiotheatre.com. Rehearsals will start April 10 with performances on June 16-18 and June 24-26.

Mohican Community Theatre works under the nonprofit Loudonville Theatre and Arts Committee and is located at the historic Ohio Theatre, 156 North Water Street.
