Loudonville school board talks FFA greenhouse; hires new CEO as consultant

LOUDONVILLE − The greenhouse proposed by the Loudonville FFA Alumni was the primary topic of discussion at a special morning meeting of the Loudonville-Perrysville Exempted Village Schools Board of Education on March 25.

According to Board President John Carroll, “we discussed with members of the FFA Alumni the reasons they sought a much bigger, better greenhouse than the current building, which is at least 30 years old. We also discussed issues like fuel supply.”

To date, Carroll said, alumni have raised through donations and pledges over $200,000 for the project, while the total projected cost is between $350,000-$400,000.

“Hopefully,” Carroll continued, “we can develop an action plan out of this discussion to keep this process going.”

The board also discussed communicating information on what the planning/architectural/design firm Garmann Miller of Minster, Ohio, is working on in the school district. Consensus is that a report on what the firm is doing will be published on the district's website.

Newly hired superintendent starts early as district consultant

Jennifer Allerding was hired to become the new superintendent of the Loudonville-Perrysville Schools Monday. She is currently Superintendent at Galion.

The board approved hiring incoming Superintendent Jennifer Allerding to work as a consultant for the school district and be paid on a per diem basis for work done before her contract goes into effect Aug. 1.

Carroll noted that he hopes Allerding will be involved in hiring positions that should be filled before the Aug. 1 date.

Finally, the board took advantage of a buy one, get one free bargain to acquire new classroom technology.

For $28,000, it purchased interactive touch display panels for 12 classrooms. The panels will replace whiteboards in classroom, some of which have been in use for 20 years, Superintendent Catherine Puster said.

Next regular meeting of the school board will be 6 p.m. Monday, April 10 in the Loudonville High cafeteria.
