Louisiana football promotes receivers coach Tim Leger to offensive coordinator

Assistant coach Tim Leger has added the title of offensive coordinator to his list of Louisiana football duties, new coach Michael Desormeaux said Monday.

Leger was co-offensive coordinator along with Desormeaux last season, before coach Billy Napier left for Florida and Desormeaux was promoted from tight ends coach. Leger also will retain recruiting coordinator responsibilities, Desormeaux said, and he’ll continue to coach receivers.

But Desormeaux, like Napier, will be the primary playcaller.

“He (Leger) has done the recruiting coordinator piece before; I think, I know, he’ll have a bigger role in it now,” Desormeaux said. “As the (offensive) coordinator piece goes, Coach Leger is really good at organizing and grouping things together, and the way that we install it, the way we teach it, the way we do those things.

“So I’m excited to see him kind of get his hands on it. And I think there’s some better ways we can do some things – the way we teach it, the way we install it.”

Leger was interim offensive coordinator for UL's New Orleans Bowl win over Marshall.

He joined Napier’s staff before the 2018 season and was given the co-coordinator title when Rob Sale left to the coach the New Giants’ offensive line prior to the 2021 season.

Prior to coming to UL, Leger was offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at UL Monroe from 2018-19, offensive line coach and offensive coordinator at McNeese from 2007-15 and quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at St. Thomas More High from 2001-06.

The father of former UL baseball player Gunner Leger, Tim Leger was selected by Pittsburgh in the 1992 MLB Draft’s fourth round and spent three seasons in the Pirates minor-league organization before becoming a quarterback at McNeese.

Desormeaux also said Monday that receiver Jamal Bell and offensive lineman David Hudson, both of whom took part in senior day activities, will return for the 2022 season.

Bell, who had 34 catches for 445 yards in 2019, has dealt with injuries throughout much of his career.

Hudson – a walk-on from Lafayette High who started at right guard when O’Cyrus Torrence missed time earlier this season – has been put on scholarship, a UL spokesman said. He's the son of former UL offensive coordinator Ron Hudson, who was named coach last week at New Mexico Highlands, an NCAA Division II program.

Desormeaux also said Monday that three of the eight December signees – Madison Prep quarterback Zeon Chriss, West St. John linebacker Kailep Edwards and Kilgore College juco-transfer defensive lineman Marcus Wiser – will enroll and take part in spring practice.
