Louisiana football starting quarterback Ben Wooldridge out for remainder of 2022 season

Louisiana can't seem to catch a break at quarterback this season.

Junior starting quarterback Ben Wooldridge has been ruled out for the final two games of the 2022 season for the Ragin' Cajuns due to a "lower leg injury." Louisiana faces No. 19 Florida State at Doak S. Campbell Stadium today.

Earlier this season, sophomore Chandler Fields suffered a "upper bowl injury" and missed multiple games, which opened the door for Wooldridge, who was initially the backup quarterback for UL, to earn the starting quarterback spot for the last handful of weeks.

Once he was thrusted into the position, Wooldridge performed well for the Cajuns. He's thrown for 15 touchdowns and 1,661 yards while completing 56 percent of his passes.

Wooldridge took a shot against Georgia Southern last Thursday and was seen entering the medical tent. He played the remainder of the game and afterward, Desormeaux he thought the quarterback would be "OK."

After the team's practice Monday, Desormeaux doubled-down and said Wooldridge was on track participate all week, "which will be for us."

But over the later half of the week, the prognosis for Wooldridge took a turn for the worst.

In Wooldridge's absence, UL football coach Michael Desormeaux will roll with Fields at quarterback, which will be his first start in seven weeks.

Fields won the preseason battle for the starting quarterback position. He started Louisiana's first four games this season, winning two of those games. Fields has played in five games total, passing for 608 yards, seven touchdowns.
