Louisiana heat wave forecast shows 110-115 degrees in parts of state through weekend
The temperature is heating up across the country as we approach the Fourth of July, pushing the mercury to dangerous levels in the South ahead of the holiday.
Over 31 million people faced an excessive heat warning throughout the country on Wednesday, with temperatures over 115 degrees being recorded in parts of the U.S. by the USA TODAY Heat Index.
With the heatwave blanketing southern U.S., here's what you can expect the weather to look like across Louisiana this weekend.

Thursday, June 29
Thursday's forecast calls for temperatures over 100 degrees throughout the whole state, with the highest temperatures predicted to be exceeding 115 degrees. Areas that might be hit with the most extreme temperatures include:
Baton Rouge
Marksville
LaPlace
Prairieville
Other areas can expect to see temperatures between 110 and 115 degrees throughout the day on Thursday, including:
New Orleans
Lafayette
Shreveport
Monroe
Friday, June 30
On Friday, parts of the state will experience lower temperatures than on Thursday, with smaller sections of the state experiencing temperatures over 115 degrees, including:
Prairieville
Simmesport
Slidell
Bogalusa
Other parts of the state will see temperatures in the 110-to-115-degree range, including the following areas:
Baton Rouge
Lafayette
New Orleans
Alexandria
In other areas, the state will experience cooler temperatures ranging from 105 to 110 degrees, including:
Lake Charles
Shreveport
Grand Isle
Leesville
Saturday, July 1
The weekend will bring cooler temperatures, with high temperatures throughout the state fluctuating between 105 and 115 degrees.
Areas that can expect to experience temperatures from 105 to 110 degrees include:
Lafayette
New Orleans
Alexandria
Monroe
Some areas of the state may see temperatures between 110 and 115 degrees, including:
Baton Rouge
Slidell
LaPlace
Prairieville
Sunday, July 2
The weekend will end with cooler temperatures than the previous days, as the majority of the state is expected to experience weather in the 105-to-110-degree range.
A small area of the state is forecast to see temperatures in between 110 to 115 degrees, including near Slidell and Prairieville. Additionally, some areas of the state are expected to see even lower temperatures between 100 to 105 degrees, including:
Port Sulphur
Grand Isle
Golden Meadow
