Louisiana man accused of victimizing a 14-year-old in Toms River arrested at airport

TOMS RIVER−A 34-year-old Louisiana man was arrested at Newark Liberty International Airport Friday on charges that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old in Toms River in May and was returning to victimize the child again.

Spencer Caudle of Prairieville, Louisiana was charged with sexual assault, attempted sexual assault, luring and enticing of a child, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said in a statement.

The Special Victims Unit of the prosecutor's office and Toms River detectives discovered that Caudle traveled from Louisiana to the Toms River area on May 27 and had sexual contact with the victim, Billhimer said.

Caudle had been communicating with the victim through the Whisper messenger app, Billhimer said.

Investigators also learned that Caudle planned to return, Billhimer said.

Ocean County detectives, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Port Authority police took Caudle into custody when he arrived at the airport.

Caudle is being held at Ocean County Jail in Toms River where he is awaiting a detention hearing.
