Oct. 5—A 24-year-old defendant from Marksville, Louisiana, waived preliminary hearings Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court on kidnapping, burglary and tampering charges stemming from incidents in January and July.

Deshaun L. Greenhouse waived the hearings and was ordered by Associate Judge Joseph Hensley to stand trial on counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and resisting arrest in the July incident, and a felony vehicle tampering count in the January incident.

A probable-cause affidavit states that on July 2 the defendant entered an unnamed business in Jasper County where he had been asked not to return and began breaking items. He purportedly refused to leave when confronted by employees, and police were called to the scene.

The affidavit states that Greenhouse refused to follow officers' commands and grabbed an employee and used that person as a human shield between him and the officers. When the employee broke free of him, Greenhouse tried to run, swiping a bottle of an alcoholic beverage on his way out of the store, but was caught and arrested.

For that case, the judge set his arraignment in a trial division for Nov. 13.

Greenhouse also is accused of stealing a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe off the lot of the Frank Fletcher Superstore on East 32nd Street in Joplin on Jan. 10. For that case, the judge set his arraignment in another trial division for Nov. 6.
