Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns lands Charleston Southern starting pitcher transfer Jerry Couch

Louisiana hit the transfer portal Thursday to bolster it's pitching staff.

Bossier City, Louisiana native Jerry Couch decided to come back closer to home from Charleston, South Carolina, announcing his intention to transfer to play his senior season for the Ragin' Cajuns.

UL coach Matt Deggs and pitching coach Seth Thibodeaux have to completely rebuild the pitching staff's weekend rotation as all three starters have graduated from this season's NCAA regional run.

The addition of Couch, who was a weekend starter for Charleston Southern last season, brings experience to an area the Cajuns need it most. Couch went 3-3 with a 6.55 ERA in 17 total appearances in 2022, helping guide the Bucs within one game of making the NCAA Tournament.

CSU lost to Campbell in the Big South Conference championship game,  Couch pitched four innings of relief in that game, allowing just one run to a potent Camel offense.

He started eight games for the Bucs and gave up just 41 earned runs in 56 1/3 innings pitched while striking out 55. Couch had a solid 1.79 WHIP during his first season of Division I baseball.

After graduating from Airline High School in Shreveport, Couch played at LSU-Eunice for three seasons, logging a 3.39 career ERA.
