Southwood student accused of threatening to kill coach and bringing a gun on campus

A Southwood High School student was arrested Thursday after making threats to kill a Caddo Parish coach.

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office said that the incident began in the gym when Caleb Steven Morris, 19, got in a verbal altercation with the coach for vaping at school.

It was reported that Morris told the coach that he was going to kill the coach as he left the gym.

Following the threat, the coach contacted the school resource officer about the incident.

The school resource officer, Calvin Williams, was able to spot Morris who went to the parking lot and was attempting to re-enter the school. Williams was able to search Morris and found the fully loaded weapon in his backpack.

The weapon recovered was a Glock 43 X 9mm.

Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Morris, booked him into the Caddo Correctional Center and charged him with one count of terrorizing, one count of aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon in a gun-free zone in connection with the reported incident.

“I am extremely proud of the quick and decisive action Deputy Williams took,” said Sheriff Steve Prator. “I truly believe that he saved both faculty and possibly students from death or serious bodily harm today.”

Southwood never entered a lockdown phase, and all students are safe.

Marquel Sennet, spokesperson for the Caddo Parish School Board said, "Caddo Parish Public Schools works in close partnership with area law enforcement agencies to develop proactive strategies to protect students and staff.

"We are grateful for the quick actions of the teacher and school resource officer at Southwood High School. We will continue working alongside the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office to ensure that we always provide a safe learning environment for our students."
