Louisiana Tech baseball tops Old Dominion 7-2 to stay in C-USA Tournament winner's bracket

Louisiana Tech baseball continued its dominance in the Conference-USA Tournament after beating Old Dominion 7-2 on Thursday night in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

It was a rematch of the 2021 conference championship where Old Dominion beat Louisiana Tech 7-5 in extra innings.

Louisiana Tech (40-18) gets Friday off as a reward for the win. The Bulldogs play the winner of Friday's Old Dominion-Charlotte elimination game on Saturday (9 a.m., ESPN+).

The No. 2 seed Bulldogs (39-18) started off the game with a sacrifice fly by McLeod and a two-run single by Taylor Young to take a 3-0 lead.

Louisiana Tech broke the game open with two outs in the bottom of the sixth by scoring three runs on five hits to make it 7-0.

The Bulldog bats forced the Monarchs (39-15) to go to the bullpen five times.

Young went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Adarius Myers added a pair of hits.

The Monarchs had no hits over six innings but broke through after back-to-back singles from Brock Gagliardi and Matt Courtney in the seventh inning. Andy Garriola broke the shutout with a two-out two-run home run in the top of the ninth.

Ryan Jennings led the dominant performance on the mound. Jennings left the game after seven innings, allowing two hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts.

"He's been lights out the last month of the season, he's been our best guy but that was the best I've been him pitch in a long time," Louisiana Tech coach Lane Borroughs said on the ESPN broadcast.

Kyle Crigger finished the final two innings allowing three hits, the two-run home run and striking out two.
