Louisiana Tech softball's season ends after two losses in one day at Conference-USA Tournament

Whether it be Friday the 13th superstitions or a series of unfortunate events, Louisiana Tech softball missed out on Conference USA Tournament championship game and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulldogs entered the tournament as regular season champions but their season was cut short after two consecutive losses Friday in Denton, Texas.

"It was just a tough day," Louisiana Tech coach Josh Taylor said. "We reverted back to some old habits. We looked tight. We played two really good teams who both played really well so I don't want to take anything away from either of them. But we definitely didn't play like we had been the last month of the season."

The Lady Techsters (39-20) opened the tournament with a 16-8 win over Marshall on Thursday. They were later run-ruled 11-1 in the fifth inning against North Texas in the semifinal and there was still a path to the title game by winning the losers bracket final. A 5-1 loss to Western Kentucky ended their run.

Despite the end of the season happening sooner than they would've expected, the Lady Techsters had a great season.

Freshman Sierra Sacco etched her name in Louisiana Tech record books. She holds the record for single season hits (83), is tied for second in single season runs (54), second in batting average (.441) and second in on base percentage (.535).

"I couldn't be prouder of this group and what they have accomplished," Taylor said. "No one thought we would win 39 games. No one thought we would compete for a league title much less win one. This team will be remembered for getting Louisiana Tech softball back to where they need to be. It's been a special group and a special year."
