Louisiana women's basketball team has third game canceled due to COVID-19 concerns

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women’s basketball game Saturday at Coastal Carolina has been canceled for “COVID-19 concerns within the Chanticleers' program," according to a news release from UL.

Coastal Carolina also canceled its game Thursday night against UL Monroe.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (11-4, 3-2), coming off 55-46 loss Thursday at Appalachian State that ended their three-game win streak, don't play again until facing Louisiana-Monroe on Jan. 29 (2 p.m., ESPN+) at the Cajundome.

The Cajuns also had two of their last five games canceled due to the virus.

They didn’t play their Jan. 6 game at Arkansas State due to COVID-19 concerns within their own program and didn’t play their Jan. 8 game at Little Rock due to COVID-19 concerns within the Trojans’ program.

According to new Sun Belt Conference rules put in place late last month, teams having at least seven available student-athletes and one coach are required to play. Teams may play with fewer than the minimum threshold, but when a team doesn’t have the minimum needed and opts not to play, the game is canceled, considered a no-contest and isn’t rescheduled as a conference contest.
