This Louisville bakery is closing its doors. What to know

A Louisville microbakery is closing its doors.

The Grainwright, a boutique bakery operating from Logan Street Market at 1001 Logan St., will close after a year and a half of operation. Its last day is April 30.

"It is with heavy hearts that for a whole host of reasons we have made the difficult decision to close the bakery," co-owner James Bridges wrote on social media. "Obviously, we are really sad right now, but we want to be able to say thank you by ending on a high, so this weekend we will have all kinds of deliciousness for you. Love you, mean it."

Bridges, who owns the bakery with his wife, Claire, began making bread after he was laid off during the height of the pandemic. But unlike most people, baking was something he already had experience with.

Bridges used to be a chef, working at Michelin-level restaurants in the U.K. He opened The Grainwright in October 2021 and prides himself on the high-quality ingredients he uses, such as organic grain from Janie's Mill, a farm in Illinois that practices regenerative agriculture.

The Grainwright also supplied bread to several restaurants around Louisville, including Naïve and North of Bourbon. The bakery menu rotates, but includes loaves of sourdough, rye, baguettes and yeasted potato loaves and pastries like galletes, morning buns, brioche buns, croissants, cruffins and more.
