Louisville boy dies from shooting at residence in 4400 block of Newport Road, police say

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville boy died Saturday afternoon after being shot, according to police.

Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said Saturday the department's sixth division was dispatched around 2 p.m. on a report of a shooting at a residence in the 4400 block of Newport Road.

"Once on scene officers located a young boy ... deceased inside the residence as a result of a gunshot wound," Smiley wrote. She later added: "The shooting victim is a male juvenile and LMPD is awaiting the coroner’s office for an exact age.

"Authorities do not believe there is any threat to the public, and the LMPD Homicide Unit is still in the early stages of the investigation to determine the tragic circumstances leading to yet another child’s shooting death just two weeks before Christmas," she said.

Officers and the LMDP crime scene unit were still on scene of the fatal shooting on Newport Road at about 5:30 p.m Saturday. The parking lot behind an apartment building was sectioned off with crime scene tape.

Louisville has had a record-setting year for gun violence. So far in 2021, LMPD has investigated 180 homicides.
