Louisville Episcopal churches to host memorial service for Queen Elizabeth II

Louisville's Christ Church Cathedral will host a memorial service Sunday in remembrance of the late Queen Elizabeth II, ahead of her state funeral to take place later this week.

Services for the local remembrance will begin at 6 p.m. at the cathedral, located at 421 S. 2nd St., in downtown Louisville.

An hour before the service, the Church of England has ordered that bells be rung at Episcopal congregations around the world. There will also be a Book of Condolences that can be signed when people come into the church for the remembrance service.

Officials from Christ Church Cathedral said people of any denomination are welcome to attend the service.

In anticipation of a large gathering, the Rev. Matthew Bradley, the dean of the Christ Church Cathedral, said seven congregations will be collaborating on the service. He said the service will include a combined choir and bagpiper, prayers for the late queen and a short meditation from Bishop Terry White.

Leaders from around the world, including President Joe Biden, are currently gathering in London to attend the Queen's funeral, which is scheduled to take place Monday. The service is anticipated to be the largest gathering of world leaders in several years.

According to a tweet from the Royal Family, the queen died "peacefully" at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, on Sept. 8, but did not specify a cause for her death.
