Louisville football, Jeff Brohm land former Purdue quarterback in transfer portal

Jeff Brohm’s Louisville football homecoming will feature a quarterback reunion.

Jack Plummer, the starting QB at Cal this past season, announced Wednesday on social media he’s transferring to Louisville.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Plummer played 21 games in three seasons for Brohm at Purdue before transferring to Cal. He’s a graduate transfer with one season of eligibility remaining.

Brohm left the Boilermakers this month to return to his alma mater as head coach.

Plummer is coming off his best collegiate season, throwing for 3,095 yards with 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Bears in 2022.

His best season at Purdue was his first as a starter. After redshirting in 2018, Plummer played seven games for the Boilermakers in 2019, throwing for 1,603 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

In his Purdue career, Plummer threw for 3,404 yards with 26 TDs and 10 picks.

Plummer, who played at Gilbert (Arizona) High School, was a three-star prospect in the class of 2018 according to 247Sports.com's composite rating, which ranked him the No. 556 player and No. 22 pro-style QB in the class.

Plummer’s familiarity with Brohm’s offense could be critical for a Louisville team in need of an experienced QB to replace starter Malik Cunningham.

Earlier this month, the Cardinals signed four-star quarterback Pierce Clarkson from St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California, and the expectation is that he’s U of L’s QB of the future.

But Brohm expected to land an experienced QB via the transfer portal.

"You need depth there," Brohm said last week. "At some point, you're going to need at least the backup — if not more than that. So I think it's always important to make sure we have enough quarterbacks on the roster. I know when I played for coach (Howard) Schnellenberger, he had a whole lot of quarterbacks on the roster — probably more than you needed.”
