It's been a rough couple of weeks for Louisville Cardinals football fans.

A Week 1 clunker in the Syracuse dome had the fanbase, irritable after a losing season in 2021, seeing déjà vu. Friday night's 20-14 win over the University of Central Florida had them seeking a doctor for high blood pressure.

In a critical season for Scott Satterfield, Malik Cunningham and the program writ large, a 1-1 start is better than the 0-2 they seemed destined to at halftime.

Cunningham led an impressive first drive in his record-setting 37th straight start in Cardinal red and white to put U of L up 7-0, but the offense managed little after that and the defense got torched more than once for big plays on the ground and through the air.

The Cards trailed 14-7 at halftime — and it could've been worse if not for some UCF miscues — and Courier Journal reporter Alexis Cubit dared ask how fans were holding up.

The answer: not well.

It didn't get much better after the final whistle, even with the Cards escaping with a victory.

U of L pieced together 13 unanswered points in the second half and made two nail-biting stops in the final two minutes of the game to hang on for dear life. Fans were ... surviving.
