Louisville man gets prison term for fatal wrong-way crash on U.S. Route 30

CANTON ‒ A 31-year-old Louisville man will spend four to six years in prison for the death of a motorist last year during a wrong-way traffic crash on U.S. Route 30.

Franco Guidone pleaded no contest in April to two counts of felony aggravated vehicular homicide and a misdemeanor charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Douglas Fahrni, 65, of Apple Creek, was killed in the collision.

Stark County Common Pleas Judge Taryn Heath on Tuesday sentenced Guidone to four to six years in prison with a chance for judicial release in three years. The sentence was part of a negotiated plea agreement.

County prosecutors did not oppose the chance for early release as long as Guidone keeps out of trouble while incarcerated and completes programming such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Men's Challenge and any other recommended offerings.

Guidone was driving his 2019 Chevrolet Trax the wrong way on the divided highway when he hit a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu head-on around 10:45 p.m. July 16 in the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 30 in Tuscarawas Township.

Guidone was seriously injured and taken to Aultman Hospital by the Brewster Fire Department. The initial police report indicated he broke his leg.
