Louisville Mayor-elect Craig Greenberg announced Wednesday his 58-member transition team as he prepares to take office in January.

The Democrat, who won the Nov. 8 election by receiving about 52% of the vote, unveiled his transition team Wednesday afternoon in western Louisville at the Republic Bank Foundation YMCA, 1720 W. Broadway.

The team includes current and former Democratic and Republican elected officials along with nonprofit chiefs, small business owners, entrepreneurs and faith leaders "from every corner of Louisville," Greenberg said.

“I’m very excited for our team to get to work, as we have a lot of work to do to move Louisville in a new direction,” Greenberg said in his news release, repeating one of his campaign's slogans. “The amazing experience and diversity of our team will ensure our administration gets off to a strong start with a focus on our city’s top priorities.”

Greenberg takes office Jan. 2 and will succeed Mayor Greg Fischer, a fellow Democrat.

Greenberg has not shared more personnel decisions regarding who will serve in his mayoral administration — and whether key leaders such as Louisville Metro Police Chief Erika Shields will stay in charge — but he said additional announcements will arrive in the "coming weeks."

He has launched a website, www.NewDirectionLouisville.com, to solicit applications from people who wish to serve in his administration and ideas from residents on what he should do and focus on as mayor.

Over 150 people have already shared their interest in working with the incoming administration, Greenberg said, and over 200 ideas submitted via the website so far have touched on ideas including converting more one-way streets to two-way streets, developing light rail, creating a new amphitheater, increasing funding for certain agencies and even picking a "superhero" to represent Louisville, Greenberg said.
