Louisville Parks and Recreation opens registration for spring and summer camp sessions

Registration for Louisville Parks and Recreation spring and summer camps is open.

Parks and Recreation camps include daily activities like sports, games, swimming, crafts and weekly field trips, according to a release from Morgan Woodrum, spokesperson for the department.

Camp sessions over long breaks are beneficial to students for several reasons: they help build important skills including independence and communication, get kids outside and nurture friendships.

Summer camps also help prevent summer learning loss, the knowledge students lose while out of school. A study published by the American Educational Research Association found that, in a five-year period, students lose about 40% of what they learned at school over the summer.
