Louisville runners, take your mark. Registration open for these 3 popular fall races

For many local runners and walkers, it's been a few months since you trained for a goal race and crossed the finish line during the spring race season. If it's time for a new goal and a new set of races, we've got you covered.

Registration is now open for the Louisville Sports Commission’s (LSC) three popular fall running races, starting with the Louisville Pure Tap 5K, the Norton Sports Health 8K and the Urban Bourbon Half Marathon. The three races provide unique courses and quality experiences for runners and walkers, while promoting active lifestyles for people of all ages and fitness levels.

“With a break in the heat, now is the perfect time to start training for a 5K and 8K and to ramp up training for a half marathon,” said Karl F. Schmitt Jr., president and CEO of the Louisville Sports Commission. “Our fall races provide excellent experiences that compliment the Triple Crown and Kentucky Derby Mini Marathon that take place in the spring.”

The family-friendly Louisville Pure Tap 5K returns on Saturday, Sept. 10, at the historic Louisville Water Tower Park. Registration is $25 and will increase to $30 on Monday, Aug. 22.

Participants are asked to bring their old shoes to donate to WaterStep; proceeds from which will help others enjoy high quality drinking water. For more information and to register online, visit PureTap5k.com.

The Norton Sports Health 8K will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Parklands of Floyds Fork. The race starts and finishes at the Egglawn, 15712 Shelbyville Road.
