NCAA Tournament scores: Louisville women's basketball beats Drake Bulldogs in first round

Coverage from the game: Louisville Cardinals survive battle with Drake and advance to NCAA Tournament round of 32

Louisville women’s basketball coach Jeff Walz recently adjusted one of his sayings.

Instead of telling his team, “My bad will get you beat,” the Cardinals’ coach is saying, “My bad will get you sent home.”

No. 5-seed U of L (23-11) is gearing up for its first-round NCAA Tournament game against No. 12 Drake (22-9) on Saturday night in Austin, Texas. Small mistakes become even bigger this time of year, and the Cardinals can't afford to overlook the high-scoring Bulldogs if they are to make a run to the Final Four.

“When we're one- or two-seed, you might spend one day of preparing for an eight, nine game. But, when you're four or five, you're just worried about that one you've got to play,” he said. “I've seen them a few times during the year on TV, and we have the utmost respect for them. I can promise you that there's nobody on this ballclub who's going down here thinking it's an easy game.”

Louisville is fresh off an appearance in the ACC Tournament championship, where it lost to Virginia Tech. Drake is still dancing after winning the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship.
