Louisville Cardinals lose to No. 7 Virginia Cavaliers in home ACC college basketball game

Here's how it went down: Louisville shows fight against another ranked ACC foe, but falls to No. 7 Virginia

The Louisville men’s basketball team welcomes No. 7 Virginia (19-4, 11-3 ACC) to the KFC Yum! Center on Wednesday night.

Head coach Kenny Payne and the Cardinals (3-22, 1-13) are looking to end a three-game losing streak with their second ACC victory of the season. The Cavaliers are currently tied for first in the conference with Pittsburgh and enter Wednesday night's matchup having notched back-to-back victories over North Carolina State and Duke.

"They're a player-ran team," U of L assistant coach Nolan Smith said of Virginia on Tuesday. "As good as (head coach) Tony (Bennet) is, the players are running that team. They're old — they have three fifth-year (seniors), a junior and senior in their starting lineup, so that right there makes them very special, because they don't have to look to the sideline and say, 'What are we running?' They know what they're running; they know what they're doing defensively. All of them have done it for a long time in that program. That makes them really good and really dangerous."
