Louisville's June 2022 homicides: Killings at laundromat, liquor store and 2 gas stations

Officers investigated 17 homicides in June 2022.

Of the 17 victims, 16 were shot and one died of stab wounds. The body of one shooting victim was burned.

Suspects have been identified in three of the cases as of Aug. 5, and charges are not expected to be filed in the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy, which is believed to have been an accident, according to an LMPD spokesperson.

By the end of June, Louisville suffered 88 homicides on the year.

What we know about June 2022's homicides:

Jordin Barnes

Barnes, 29, was shot to death in Shively on June 5 while riding a bicycle in the parking lot of a liquor store.

Shively Police responded to the shooting in the 4500 block of Dixie Highway just before 10 p.m. Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Javontae Moore, 18, was arrested on June 15 in the homicide. He was identified by a juvenile who was in the car that was at the liquor store the night of the shooting, according to Moore's arrest citation.

Tevin Roberts

Roberts, 29, was shot to death while parked outside a laundromat June 10.

Officers responded to the shooting just after 6:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Broadway. There, they found Roberts dead inside a parked vehicle.

The business is not believed to have anything to do with the shooting, according to an LMPD spokesperson.

No arrests have been made in his case.

Dorien Meullion

Meullion, 28, was shot outside an apartment complex June 10.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 3500 block of Paragon Court about 10:30 p.m. Officers found Meullion, who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made in his case.

Kennetta Taylor

Taylor, 38, was found stabbed to death inside a home June 11.

Officers responded to reports of a person down inside a home in the 2500 block of Pirtle Street about 4:30 p.m.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office confirmed Taylor died as a result of a stab wound.

No arrests have been made in her case.

David Keith Dickson

Dickson, 36, was shot at a downtown gas station June 12.

Officers responded to the Thornton's at First and Broadway just after 10 p.m. after two men were in an altercation, according to LMPD's preliminary investigation.

A security guard for the store, Tavon Parrish, allegedly shot Dickson. He stayed at the scene and was charged with murder the following morning.

After waiving his Miranda Rights, Parrish told detectives the victim was a customer in the store and was confronted by Parrish after stealing a can of beer, according to his arrest citation. Parrish then pointed a gun at Dickson and shot him "because he believed the victim wanted to fight him," the citation says.

"We are deeply saddened by the fatality that occurred at our store. We are actively working with local authorities during this ongoing investigation," the store's corporate communications department said in an email to The Courier Journal. "Additionally, the contract with the third-party security company related in this shooting has been terminated."

Derick Williams

Williams, 49, was found dead June 13.

Officers responded to a call of a burned body that was found in an alley of the Phoenix Hill neighborhood near Rubel Park on Barret Avenue about 3:20 a.m.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the man as Williams.

He was fatally shot before being burned, according to the coroner's office.

No arrests have been made.

Kevin Rogers

Rogers, 25, was shot June 15.

Officers responded to the shooting about 5:50 a.m. in the 200 block of North 26th Street. Rogers was taken to University of Louisville Hospital, where he died.

No arrests have been made in his homicide.

Tremont Tobin

Tobin, 40, was shot June 19.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of Central Avenue about 4:40 p.m. and found Tobin with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On June 23, Gregory Bell, 49, was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections and charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the arrest citation, Bell and Tobin were talking when Bell pulled out a gun and shot Tobin multiple times. After Tobin fell to the ground, Bell walked closer to him and shot him again while standing over him, it says.

Bell then went inside the home and came back out with a different handgun, wiped it down, then placed it next to Tobin's body, according to the citation.

Purnell Trent Maddox

Maddox, 46, was found shot to death inside a home June 22.

Officers responded to the 11000 block of Nez Perce Way about 4:30 p.m. There they found Maddox dead, shot multiple times.

No arrest have been made.

Vincent Crutcher

Crutcher, 34, was shot June 23 and died from his injuries the following day.

Officers responded to the 4000 block of Heatherview Road near Breckinridge Lane about 4:30 a.m. and found Crutcher suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. He was transported to U of L Hospital, where he died June 24.

Charvontae Reed, 21, was arrested in the shooting after he was found hiding on a nearby porch, according to LMPD.

Jeffery Randolph

Randolph, 20, was shot June 25.

Officers responded to a call about a shooting at 12:30 p.m. at East Muhamad Ali Boulevard and Hancock Street, but Randolph was found shot near the intersection of Shelby Street and East Ali, according to an LMPD spokesperson.

Randolph was taken to U of L Hospital in critical condition but later died.

No arrests have been made in his case.

Dashawn Powell and Ebony Shepard

Powell, 42, and Shepard, 41, were shot inside a vehicle on June 27.

Officers responded to the 2400 block of Madison Avenue about 4:30 a.m. in response to a report of gunshots. There they found the two suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been made in these homicides.

Jakari A. Griffin

Griffin, 11, was shot June 27.

Officers responded to the 4700 block of East Pages Lane about 6:45 p.m., where they found Griffin with a gunshot wound.

Officers tried to perform life-saving measures, according to LMPD, but the boy was pronounced dead after being taken to Norton Children's Hospital.

Officers believe the shooting was accidental, based on interviews the department conducted, and LMPD does not expect charges to be filed, police spokesperson Aaron Ellis said.

Gary Brown and Steven Curtis

Brown, 21, and Curtis, 40, were found dead inside an apartment June 30.

Officers responded to a call about 8 p.m. concerning two people dead inside the apartment in the 7400 block of Steeplecrest Circle.

Foul play is believed to have been involved in both deaths and they are being investigated as homicides, said LMPD spokesperson Alicia Smiley.

No arrests have been made in these homicides.

Man found dead in Portland neighborhood

A man was shot to death June 30.

Officers responded to the 2500 block of Montgomery Street at about 10 p.m., where they found a man who'd been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has not yet been identified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office but officers believe he was in his late teens or early 20s.

No arrests have been made in his case.
