Love and care through a glass window

Love through a glass pane

Barcelona's Centre Parc nursing home

is helping elderly residents

safely interact with loved ones

They can blow kisses, give virtual hugs

and even speak through mobile phones

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) HEAD OF CENTRE PARC NURSING HOME, EDUARDO BADIA, 47, SAYING:

"The idea was very welcomed because it allows families to visit when they know their parents or grandparents are in this room. They come without time restrictions, they can speak and interact. It reduces the residents’ sadness and gives families a sense of security because they can see them. They no longer see a screen, a small square, they get to really see how their family member is doing."

The window visits have even allowed

one resident to form a bond

with a four-legged passer-by

(SOUNDBITE) (Catalan) BARCELONA RESIDENT, ANTONI, 70, SAYING:

"We walk the dog every morning, and one day there was a lady who caught the dog's attention. After that, a bond was created. I would say a very human bond, very tender. Every day we bring the dog to the glass front, she tries to talk to the dog and it is very beautiful. The subject is so simple and so great."
