People gathered in Pittsburgh’s Hill District to show each other love and celebrate a famous Pittsburgh playwright.

The 7th annual August Wilson block party was held on Bedford Avenue on Saturday.

Wilson was a Pulitzer Prize winner and the party celebrates his life and work.

More than 175 vendors came out to the event.

Event organizers are hopeful it will help move the community towards a brighter future.

“We’re communicating had showing love to each other,” said Randy Coleman with Hill District for Life. “We’re trying to move forward, not backward, forward with the community. That’s what this is all about.

The August Wilson was reopened to the public in July after a $500,000 grant made renovations for it possible.

The house is dedicated to promoting arts and culture throughout the Pittsburgh area.
