Oct. 13—ASHLAND — A love for Halloween drives Jeremey and Kelly Lewis to put out elaborate decorations for the event. In fact, the couple's house has been ready for visitors for a couple of weeks.

Their love for animals also moved them to ask visitors to bring donations to be delivered to Ashland Animal Rescue Fund.

Mrs. Lewis said she has already dropped off a trunkful of donations to the kennel.

"We collected in 2021 for the Ashland Resource Center. We didn't do a drive last year," she said. "We saw Cathy Queen's post that they needed supplies, so we decided to collect for AARF."

Queen said the organization is grateful for the help.

"This is the first year she's asked for supplies for AARF, and we truly appreciate it," Queen said.

The house's decorations were completed in Sept. 30 and Mrs. Lewis said they received some donations that weekend, but quite a few more came in the following weekend.

She said they try to add decorations and change the theme each year.

"We use the bigger stuff every year, like the animatronic zombie. We always use those big guys," she said.

Most Friday and Saturday nights, the Lewises sit outside and give candy to the children, but Mrs. Lewis said even if they're aren't there, anyone can drop off donations, putting them inside or behind a dog house made from pallets.

Donations will be collected throughout October and items requested include:

Purina Dog Chow, Purina Puppy Chow, Purina Beneful Adult Dry Dog Food, Purina One Adult Cat Food, canned adult cat food, Purina One Kitten Food, canned Pedigree Puppy Food, paper towels, bleach (labeled "kills 99.9% bacteria"), laundry detergent, Dawn dish soap, slip lead leash and gift cards.

Monetary Donations may be accepted to PayPal.com/aarfky. To pay directly toward the vet bill, call (606) 673-1144. Checks may be mailed to AARF, P.O. Box 2061, Ashland, KY 41105

Drop off donations to Halloween on Hampton and they will get everything to AARF. The drive lasts through Oct. 31.
