Love Island presenter Maya Jama has revealed the surprising moment she was stopped by an immigration official on a recent trip to America to talk about the hit reality series.

As audiences prepare to welcome another season of the ITV dating show - with an all new Love Island cast - host Maya Jama shared how the show continues to hook viewers in the most unexpected of places.

Jama recalled her conversation with the US immigration officer whilst travelling to New York. "I was in the airport recently going to America and the woman at immigration was telling me how much she loved the show," she said. "She was asking me questions about all of the Islanders.

"I wasn’t asked any questions about why I was in the country, but instead everything that went down last series," she added, joking of the show's appeal: "It’s not even celebrities, it's just everywhere I go."

Jama made her presenting debut on the show back in January 2023, hosting the Winter edition of the programme set in South Africa.

She took over presenting duties from Laura Whitmore, who quit as Love Island host last August after explaining there was "nothing more" she could do with the show going forward.

With season 10 just around the corner, Jama opened up about the pressure she's feeling ahead of the show's return.

"Now there’s a bit more of an expectation, I just want to make sure that I live up to that expectation again…. The pressure is on for my stylist because the dresses did very well last series," she said.

Jama also opened up on what her favourite thing is about being the Love Island presenter.

"I love being able to have a bit more of a personal relationship with the Islanders and being able to see all the behind-the-scenes of what goes into making the show," she said.

"It’s a nice feeling to be involved in a show that I’ve loved and been a fan of for so long."
