He’s been making headlines and received quite a few comments on Twitter recently, but now Love Island’s Joe Garrett's mum has set the record straight about her son and what he’s really like.

Joe’s mum Rachel, spoke to the Mail Online regarding her son and how he’s a "normal, loving 22-year-old lad."

Recently, he’s caused a stir on Twitter and with charity Women's Aid for his controlling behaviour with partner Lucie Donlan. But this isn’t nothing like sandwich delivery boy Joe, according to his mum.

"Both myself and his sister are his best friends. He doesn’t emotionally control anyone. What has been said in the newspapers today is just sheer rubbish, that is not my boy.

"The photograph used in some of the articles, which shows Lucie crying, is from an argument with one of the other girls. It was nothing to do with Joe but he was pictured next to it.

"I see him every day of the week and there’s no way he would make a girl cry. He’s a normal, loving 22-year-old lad."

Joe’s controlling behaviour has received nearly 800 complaints to OFCOM after Lucie was in tears and suggested she should spend more time with the girl Islanders and less time with the boys, especially Tommy Fury, who she has been close with since she joined the show at the beginning. Women’s Aid have also described Joe’s actions as ‘abusive’ and ‘predatory’.

As Joe was the most recent member to leave the villa, along with Elma thanks to the viewers vote, Lucie is now distraught and contemplating leaving the island as a result. So will she stay or go?
