Winter Love Island star Shaq Muhammad has spoken out on the public's perception of his girlfriend Tanya Manhenga, saying she received a "bad" edit on the show.

The couple met on the first day of the reality sating show and made it to the final, placing fourth behind series winners Kai and Sanam. However, their journey wasn't a smooth one, with the couple suffering multiple fallouts and serious Casa Amor drama.

Now, the couple have had time to reflect on their time in the villa, with Shaq admitting he believes Tanya was edited harshly.

"I've watched more than she’s watched and based on the things that I know and how it was perceived, Tanya’s not like that. She’s not this big bad villain that everyone thinks she is," Shaq told the Daily Star.

"She’s honestly the nicest, kindest girl that I've ever met and I wouldn’t be with her if that wasn’t the case," he said.

Tanya continued: "Everyone in the villa knows 'cause you can tell the difference between villa votes and outside votes.

"But then obviously on screen it was a completely different thing, so yeah I do think we got edited pretty bad because that’s not me."

The pair also gave advice to future Love Island hopefuls, adding that future contestants should focus on being authentic on the show. "It's honestly the best way to be because if you’re not, people will start to work out that you’re not being yourself very, very quickly," Shaq said.
