Love Island Australia's Erin Barnett got candid about getting a hysterectomy at 28.

The reality TV personality, best known for being a runner-up in the first season of the Aussie version of Love Island, took to Instagram to share her recovery after having her uterus removed.

Barnett said the surgery didn't feel "any different" from other operations she's had due to her endometriosis.

"Surgery went really well! We did have some trouble getting my pain under control in recovery, but we got there in the end," Erin wrote on Instagram alongside a mirror selfie she took at the hospital.

"I've wanted this for years and I'm so overwhelmed with emotions now it's happened," she continued.

"I'm so glad I never gave up advocating for myself and my body. And please remember, we are all amazing with or without kids. Having children does not define you. Do whatever makes you happy and healthy."

In a follow-up post, Erin wrote: "This surgery doesn't really feel any different from any other surgery I've had for endometriosis/PCOS."

She also explained she was experiencing some discomfort while urinating. The former Islander clarified in a subsequent Instagram Story that she was indeed diagnosed with a UTI after noticing blood in her urine and was prescribed antibiotics.

"I actually don't feel too bad today," she told her followers in a video.

"It's just the lower back pain and discomfort when I'm urinating but, other than that, I feel fine."

Erin is the latest public figure to raise awareness of endometriosis. This is a long-term condition in which tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows in other areas, such as the ovaries and fallopian tubes, causing a variety of symptoms, including intense pain, particularly during one's period.

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX, while Love Island Australia is available to stream on the same platform in the UK.
