Love Island star Davide Sanclimenti has shared his feelings over his physical appearance, while discussing his teenage years.

The reality star, who won the ITV2 dating show's 2022 series with his ex-girlfriend Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, took to Instagram yesterday (August 16) to open up about his fitness journey over the years, revealing he was "body shamed" at school.

Davide shared a number of photos of himself at Muscle Beach Venice, popular among bodybuilders, in Los Angeles, captioning the post: "I was classed as overweight as a teenager, so I started training. Running like I was in a marathon and swimming like an Olympian.

"I was eating almost nothing, until I lost an unhealthy amount of weight. If there was anyone that could have saved me, it was me."

He continued: "Fitness for me is everything. The beauty of it? The effort you put into it is directly correlated to the results you will get.

"It always gave me the strength to keep going, even when things were getting hard. It made me disciplined because if you cannot sacrifice part of yourself, you’ll need to sacrifice your dreams. And so it’s life."

Davide signed off his post by saying that he's now living out his dream by training in "healthy way" at Muscle Beach in Venice, Los Angeles.

After winning Love Island, Davide and Ekin-Su continued to pursue their romance until Davide eventually announced in June that they had parted ways after less than a year together.

Davide later hit back "fake stories" claiming he "blinded" Ekin-Su by announcing their split on social media, writing: "Sadly, there's been a stream of toxic criticism circulating around me, and it's disheartening.

"The constant creation of fake narratives on a person who was nothing but a genuine, caring and loving boyfriend for her and all he wanted was to enjoy and nurture the beautiful relationship they had. And instead we had to deal with ridiculous and fake stories."

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
