Love Island star Kai Fagan has teased a possible engagement to Sanam Harrinanan after a gesture with a promise ring.

The couple triumphed in the ninth series of the reality show earlier this year, with their relationship going from strength to strength outside of the villa.

Earlier this week, Kai shared a photo of the pair on his Instagram account, with Sanam showing off a ring on her finger.

He explained in the caption that it was a promise ring, but subsequently teased that an engagement could be on the cards. "A promise [ring emoji]," he began, before adding: "By the way guys it's a promise ring! The big one will come soon don't worry."

Fans took to the comments to offer their congratulations, with one writing: "Why did I gasp and then get emotional?!". Another user commented their excitement at the future, writing: "Love the ring, you guys are great together, can't wait to see what your engagement ring's gonna be like."

The most recent series of Love Island ended last month, with Jess Harding and Sammy Root coming out on top in the public vote. Though there is nothing currently to see on screen, the post-villa fallout always throws up some drama, and this year was no different.

Following their fallout during Casa Amor, Scott van-der-Sluis teased a potential relationship with Catherine Agbaje, with the star saying: "Never say never. Obviously we care for each other and we're really good friends."

The professional footballer subsequently re-entered the villa for the current series of Love Island USA, with the star making a shock appearance as a bombshell just weeks after his journey on the UK version of the show ended.

The US version has been similarly dramatic, with a recent episode showcasing a rare same-sex relationship as Kassy Castillo and Johnnie Garcia shared a kiss together after a previous falling out.

Love Island airs on ITV2 and streams on ITVX.
