Love Island's Liberty Poole and Kaz Kamwi speak out after being held at knifepoint
Love Island 2021 faves Liberty Poole and Kaz Kamwi took to Instagram this weekend to speak out about a terrifying ordeal they experienced whilst on holiday in Los Angeles. The pair had travelled to the celeb-filled city for Coachella festival, but the trip turned sour when they were held at knifepoint after getting out of their taxi in the "wrong part of the neighbourhood".
Sharing a joint video to their Instagram Stories, the pair started off by thanking fans for their support since the incident. "We wanted to jump on really quickly and say thank you to all the messages we have received," Kaz said, to which BFF Liberty added: "Obviously, it was a scary incident that happened on Thursday, but we didn’t want it to affect the rest of our holiday so we’ve just been continuing on as normal and living our best lives."
She went on: "It’s horrible that that happened, but we’re OK and that’s the main thing that we’re safe."
Speaking to The Sun, a source close to the pair detailed what happened. "Liberty and Kaz had been just heading to a party and got out of their car in the wrong part of the neighbourhood," the insider said. "Out of the blue, this woman appeared with a knife and threatened them. Liberty and Kaz were obviously shocked and terrified — especially because guns are legal in the US."
The source continued, "Fortunately for them, two men who had been walking past came to their rescue and called the police. The girls have been left shaken up by the incident and are just surprised that it happened to them.
"But they’re grateful that the two men were in the right place at the right time, to help them."
Liberty and Kaz have been the breakout stars from last year's season of Love Island, with Liberty going on to sign a £1 million fashion deal with In The Style and later competing on the most recent season of Dancing on Ice. Similarly, Kaz has been making waves in the fashion influencer world, and has also been doing charity work with Shelter and The Big Issue.
In December of last year, Kaz split from co-star Tyler Cruikshank – who she came in fourth place with – with Liberty calling time on her romance with Jake Cornish whilst the pair were still inside the villa.
