Love Island presenter Maya Jama has recalled a hospital dash during her first work trip abroad over a decade ago.

The star first posted about the incident in Ayia Napa back in 2012, sharing a series of photos at the time including herself in a wheelchair and the back of an ambulance.

"How to end up in hospital on ur 2nd night by @MayaJama #WheelchairGang2012 #AyiaNapa," she said.

Taking to her Instagram Stories this week after the post resurfaced, Maya reshared it and wrote (via The Mirror): "First work trip abroad ended up in hospital (as you can see the adrenaline was up in the ambulance until they told me I could have lost a toe."

Speaking back in 2019, the presenter opened up about the incident, recalling how she slipped on a kerb and that the bottom of her foot was "hanging off".

“I went to Ayia Napa when I was 17 to host Charlie Sloth’s Fire in the Booth," she told PrettyLittleThing's Behind Closed Doors podcast.

“But the day before the actual beach party thing that we were supposed to be hosting, I ended up slipping on a bit of mashed-up kerb.

“The bottom of my foot was hanging off," she continued. “So I had to be in hospital for two days and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of the time, which isn’t the best. But character-building.

"I ripped a nerve and couldn’t feel it. I was getting carried into the ambulance like ‘wahey…’, loving it, not knowing that I might not be able to bend my f***ing toes."

The star added at the time that she still had issues with her toe, explaining: "The big one doesn’t go, it can bend but can't tuck. It doesn’t tuck. I will never forget that trip.”

In other news, Maya – who is currently hosting the All Stars series of Love Island – has revealed that she recently got a tattoo while hungover.

Love Island: All Stars airs at 9pm on ITV2, ITVX & STV.
