Love Island star Megan Barton Hanson has opened up about her emergency trip to hospital, admitting that she initially avoided A&E because of fears she would be photographed.

The reality star revealed last week that she had been rushed to hospital, and has now explained that it happened because of a severe allergic reaction to hair dye.

Appearing on today's (April 18) This Morning, Megan explained that she was preparing to go to the Coachella Festival in California when her dye caused her face to swell up, at one point meaning she could "barely open [her] eyes".

"I called my mum and I was like, 'Mum, what do I do? I can't just walk in A&E. If people see me this will be everywhere,'" she recalled.

"And we all know how much trolling I've had from my before and after surgery pictures. I thought, this is all I need now – me with a massive moon head.

"I sent my mum a photo. Over the phone [my mum] was fine, she was okay. She got the train down, met me at the doctor's, she walked in and burst out crying."

They then called an ambulance to get the problem sorted, and Megan admitted last week that she had "never been so scared".

"Finally starting to feel a little more human again, I've never been so scared!" she said on Instagram. "When the doctor looks at you in shock and says we need to call an ambulance right now, a day before I was due to fly to LA.

"Thank you all so much for your well wishes and support it means so much."

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10.30am. Love Island returns this summer on ITV2.
