Fans had a few choice words on Love Island's Ovie Soko's behalf when it was rumoured that girlfriend and fellow former Islander India Reynolds had cheated on him.

But after India strongly denied the claims, the basketball player has now dismissed the rumours too, insisting that the couple are "very happy together" and describing the model as a "very sweet and genuine person".

After being unveiled as the new ambassador for ASOS, Ovie told the Mail Online: "Me and India are happy. I think that's definitely the most important thing. We're very happy.

"Regardless of how many people [there are] in every one of our lives, there will be opinions. And everyone can have their own opinion. I think as a collective society, every last one of us can always do a better job of wording things in a nice way.

"Because I think, regardless of the situation, I don't think there ever has to be anyone really has to be demonised."

The sports star is only about exuding "positive energy" and supporting his peers, adding: "It's always supporting the one you love, not necessarily who might or might not be wrong. That really shouldn't take the lead. The lead should always be the person you like and care about and just supporting them. I think positive energy is so important."

Ovie and India placed third on Love Island, behind Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury, and winners Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea.

"She's a great person – a very genuine, very sweet person," he said of India. "I think whenever you can come across genuine people – whether that be a significant other, a mate, a work colleague – you've got to value them."

An Instagram account recently alleged that India was spotted kissing her ex-boyfriend, footballer Kieran Gibbs, during a recent visit to Portugal.

However, India's representative categorically denied these claims, saying: "There is no truth in this whatsoever and Ovie and India are still very much together and happy."

Since the ITV2 show ended, Chris Taylor and Harley Brash, Belle Hassan and Anton Danyluk and even Amber and Greg have gone their separate ways.

Love Island returns in winter 2020 on ITV2, and you can catch up on the show via ITV Hub.
