Love Island contestants Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga have made a big commitment ahead of the 2023 winter series' grand finale next week.

In last night's (March 9) episode, we saw the duo on their date, with Shaq using the opportunity to ask Tanya to be his girlfriend.

"This place, being here with you," he said. "This whole journey that we've been on here together. It's something I could never have imagined, meeting someone like you.

"And I think for me, the way I feel about you. I think it's only right that I wanna make you my girlfriend."

Tanya wasn't sure how to react at first, laughing and waving her hand. But she soon gathered herself to ask if he was sure.

"I've never been more sure," he replied. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

After giving him a jokingly long 'hmmm', Tanya said that she would become his girlfriend, and the newly-official couple shared a big hug.

While we've seen Shaq's relationship journey with Tanya over the last few weeks, one thing we haven't seen as much of is his friendship with Olivia Hawkins.

The dumped Islander exclusively told Digital Spy that a lot of scenes of the Islanders just being friends with each other didn't make it to air, stating: "My friendship with Shaq – I think it was a shame that no one saw.

"You know, he was my best boy mate in there. We had so many funny times... Also, my friendship with Sanam [Harrinanan] and a lot of the girls [didn't air]. We were very close in there. So, I think that’s a shame but it’s fine."

Love Island airs nightly on ITV2, and is available via catch up on ITVX and BritBox.
