'I love it': Kids enjoy snow day in Central Park

New Yorkers slid down the freshly fallen snow on Pilgrim Hill in Central Park on Thursday (December 17), making the best of the winter storm that marched up the U.S. East Coast the night before.

Parents watched their children have fun, and some, like Nadia Lennert, who was in the park with her son, Nicholas, joined them down hill a couple of times as well.

"It's been so necessary after what we've been going through here in the city and around the world," Lennert said. "It's a really nice break right before the holidays. It's been terrific."

Children played with snow and encouraged each other to be brave on their inflatable and plastic sleds, some moving with substantial speed.

"It's been a few years since we've been able to take the kids out and go sledding like this," said George Cammus, who was in the park with his son, George, Jr. "As you can see, all the kids in the area are having a great time, you know, and you don't get very many opportunities to enjoy something like this."

The winter storm, which delivered freezing rain and a wintry mix to some Mid-Atlantic states on Wednesday (December 16), dropped its biggest load of snow on an inland swath from north central Pennsylvania through southern New Hampshire.
