We love this so much: Jo's Coffee giving away coffee at new location

Jo's Coffee is opening its fifth location, and it's in South Austin.

The new store, which is at the intersection of Menchaca Road and Stassney Lane, is the southernmost location of the famous coffee shop, said Carolyn Garlock, general manager of Jo's Coffee. Other locations include spots at South Congress Avenue, Red River Street, West Second Street and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

"We're super stoked," Garlock said.

With 2,200 square feet, the new space is big and includes a drive-thru, the second location with a drive-thru (the other is the Red River Jo's). All your favorite Jo's Coffee coffee and tea drinks are on the menu, along with breakfast tacos, salads, sandwiches and wraps. The building, which is at 5532 Menchaca Road, is one floor and looked like a Jo's Coffee before they even moved in, Garlock said.

"The shape of it was very Jo's," Garlock explained, adding that the new location will be similar to the South Congress Avenue store, just bigger and indoors.

"It's super neighborly," she said. "It feels pretty much like how old school Jo's is, like this area. So, we're excited to be a part of that."

The coffee shop had its soft-opening on Monday, but the official opening will be May 8. To celebrate, Jo's is offering up free drip coffee and cold brew all day May 8 at the new location.

Garlock said the conversation to open a South Austin Jo's started about a year ago. It made sense to expand south as Austinites continue to move to the outer edges of the city.

In the future, Garlock said Jo's Coffee could move farther south, or out east.

"Jo's has been around a long time. We'd like to keep it that way and continue to grow with Austin," Garlock said.

Jo's Coffee first opened with its South Congress Avenue location in 1999. Even if you've never been, you still know Jo's Coffee — its South Congress location is home to the iconic "I love you so much" mural. The building is green with red accents and has become an Austin destination.
