Love Stanislaus wants you in your front yard this Halloween. Here’s how to win a $150 prize

A happy Halloween, to Love Stanislaus County CEO and founder Jeff Pishney, would mean residents welcoming their neighbors to their front yards for festive fun and, of course, candy.

Halloween Neighborhood Night is an informal event, aimed at inspiring the community to get outside and celebrate the holiday. It comes with a prize for one drawing winner.

“Halloween night, that’s the one night out of the year that everyone’s walking around,” Pishney said. “We’re just trying to inspire the community to get to know your neighbors and have fun with your neighbors.”

Here’s how you can get involved, and how you can enter to win the Yogurt Mill gift basket worth over $150:

What is Halloween Neighborhood Night?

Halloween Neighborhood Night 2023 will be Love Stanislaus County’s eighth year of inspiring the community to be a front yard neighbor on Halloween night, Pishney said.

From the data they gather on their website, he said, it seems there are “well over 100 neighborhoods” intentionally having gatherings that night. Of those who submit their planned activities, there’s no exact science to calculate how many people participate outside.

“It’s not super programmed. It’s not a big event where we all gather somewhere,” Pishney said. “It’s just on your own. Just do it and let us know what you’re doing.”

The reason Love Stanislaus County invites people to celebrate the holiday on their front porch or driveway, Pishney said, is because it’s more inviting.

Neighborhoods are like little cities, he said. If neighborhoods are connected and looking out for one another, the whole city will be connected.

“There’s less crime, there’s better mental health, better physical health, schools are better,” he said. “Everything is better when people know their neighbors.”

How to enter to win a Yogurt Mill Gift Basket

On the Love Stanislaus County website, there’s a form where residents can submit their personal information, along with planned activities and expected number of visitors.

Some ideas Pishney says residents can do include:

  • Set up a photo booth background

  • Prepare hot chocolate to share

  • Have a fire pit and invite people to cook s’mores

  • Cook hot dogs to pass out

This form not only helps the organization gauge how many people are participating but enters you into a drawing for a chance to win a Yogurt Mill gift basket worth over $150.
