‘Love is in the water’: Florida Aquarium animals celebrate Valentine’s Day

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida Aquarium staff concocted some special treats and activities for their resident animals in honor of Valentine’s Day.

The aquarium shared some seriously adorable video of the North American river otters, ring-tailed lemurs and African penguins getting into the holiday spirit. You can watch the animals enjoying their Valentine’s Day treats in the video player above.

The Valentine’s-themed activities, like other enrichment, helps provide mental and physical stimulation to the animals, a news release from the aquarium stated.

“This can take various forms, such as puzzle feeders promoting foraging, climbing structures enhancing habitats, and training sessions fostering interaction with keepers,” the aquarium said.

This Valentine’s Day, the otters received conversation hearts made of colored ice. Aquarium staff handed out treats and personalized valentines for the lemurs.

The penguins got to play with heart-shaped construction paper cutouts, which went nicely with the “friendship bracelets” on their wings.
