Loveland speeds up Pulse's internet connections, adds TV channels

Pulse, Loveland's broadband service, unveiled a higher speed network on Tuesday. The provider now offers five plans, with prices ranging from $45 to $200 per month.

Brieana Reed-Harmel, Pulse's municipal fiber manager, activated the final cross connect on Tuesday to bring the faster speeds and new Wi-Fi service to the area.

Based on results of a market research analysis last year, Pulse developed the new offerings:

  • Starter: 100 megabits per second

  • Connect: 350 megabits per second

  • My Gig: 1 gigabit per second

  • Ultimate: 3 gigabits per second

  • Pro: 10 gigabits per second

The starter plan increased from 30 mbps per second to 100 mbps at no additional cost and Connect 120 has been replaced with Connect 350 mbps for an additional $4 per month. For those who need multigigabit high-speed internet, Pulse added the Ultimate plan and reduced the cost of the Pro plan by $100.

Pulse also introduced Adaptive WiFi+, which uses SuperPods that plug into electrical outlets to create a "mesh" of connections "to ensure there are no blind spots anywhere in the home." It also provides more than 55 TiVo+ high-definition channels and free installation.

"Pulse is changing the internet game in Northern Colorado, offering a level of speed, reliability and innovation that is unmatched by any other provider," Reed-Harmel said in a news release.

Adaptive WiFi+ can be added to Pulse's Starter, Connect or My Gig plans for an additional $25 per month. The My Gig plan with Adaptive WiFi+ costs $99.95 per month, according to Pulse.

Pulse is available in about 67% of Loveland's service area with about 31% of potential customers signing up for the municipal service. That's about the same take rate as Fort Collins' Connexion.

Fort Collins offers 1-gigabit and 10-gigabit internet and is working on offering 2-gigabit internet in coming months, according to Connexion Executive Director Chad Crager. It is also lowering its price on 10-gigabit internet to $200 a month, a decrease of $100.
