‘He was so loving’: Family remembers man killed by WPD patrol car

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A crash involving a police officer in southwest Wichita killed 51-year-old Jeffrey Moss on Saturday. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Jeffrey was crossing the street near Macarthur and Seneca when a Wichita police department SUV hit him.

His family is now coming to terms with his death.

Although the cause of the crash is still being investigated, Jeffrey’s daughter-in-law and son said that’s not what they’re focusing on right now. They said they wanted to instead focus on who Jeffrey was: An amazing father and grandfather.

They want to honor his memory by sharing more about who he was.

Jeffrey was a dad to just two, but if you ask around, you’ll find he embraced many as his family, including his future daughter-in-law when he first met her.

“He was so loving, so accepting,” said Delaney Baisch-Moss. “We’d just met, and he was immediately like, ‘You’re my daughter now, you’re just part of the family.'”

Jeffrey’s son Raymond Moss said his dad’s open nature brought people close to him.

“He was so loving and caring and could just light up the room when he entered,” Raymond said.

Jeffrey wasn’t just a father figure. He was also a grandpa to four grandkids.

“He would do whatever he could to make them smile, laugh,” Delaney said. “He’d chase them around and make funny noises, silly faces.”

“Hearing his voice and seeing the way he lights up when he sees the grandkids,” Raymond said, “You know, it’s just too much, too much good.”

Both Raymond and Delaney said Jeffrey was the type of person they could come to with any problem.

KHP talks next steps in investigation of WPD crash death

“He was just always a shoulder to cry on if we needed it,” Raymond said.

“He was always right there, willing to listen and willing to talk about it,” said Delaney.

Raymond said he misses everything about his dad.

“I am honored to have been his son,” he said.

The family has put together a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses.

The KHP is investigating the crash that killed Jeffrey. It typically takes four to six months for them to put together a full report on this kind of incident. The WPD declined to talk about the case on Monday.
