Loyalton Fire Near Nevada-California Border Burns More Than 43,000 Acres

The Loyalton Fire burning near Reno, Nevada, scorched 43,444 acres and was 10 percent contained as of Tuesday morning, August 18, officials said.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno shared this timelapse video of the heavy smoke from the fire, burning near the border of Nevada and California. The fire started on August 14 near Loyalton, California, and spread to northern Nevada, according to reports.

Officials issued several evacuation orders for threatened communities.
